Harmony: The Golden Ratio

Golden Ratio

I am over talking about myself because I am a bit stressed. So, how can I relieve stress? No doubt sex works the best to relieve stress, but I am not married yet. I don’t want to imply the idea of necessarily being married before having sex. However, the deepest idea here is: no sex without intimacy. Anyway, I had no sex, and no contact with any female. How can I do any physical contact while I am more like a mental status? It’s only a floating wave vibrates the thin air. I am distant. I am underwater, and I am drowning to be a treasure. I am the missing piece.. Easy to figure, hard to reach. Shit, this was too many of “I am”.

The other missing piece is the connection between music and soul. Music always talks to the soul. I believed that classical musicians and composers are prophets. They were speaking/playing divine note. Otherwise, how could they stimulate the soul in the way their music does? In the end, a belief or religion, which prohibits music, is inhibiting its people from sensing an important side of beauty inside their souls. Regardless any side effect that religion claims, in benefit risk ratio, the weight of music is heavier. Islamics (as extreme Muslims) claim that listening to Quran has significant results to fasten the healing process and treating incurable diseases. On the other hand, Mozart Effect has similar role, plus increasing the IQ. My recent experience drives me to believe music works better, in particular as a stress reliever.

Music is the pleasure of the human soul experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting. - Gottfried Leibniz

Regardless Mozart Effect, there is an established relationship between math and music. And as the world consists of numbers, the equation goes as the following:
Music math soul
Indeed, numbers are the elementary particles, where u can’t find any substructures below them. The last sentence is very provoking, but you can’t prove the opposite. Something inside humans drives them to appreciate symmetry, or fixed ratios, and symmetrical, beauty has to be. That is what all plastic surgery works about. To understand human pursuing the perfection, they try to make things perfectly. And vice versa, a flawlessly made music has a profound impact over the soul. Numbers are the absolute perfection, there is a whole rite to worship numbers: 1, 2, 3 and 4. And when we use ratios to compose music, this will be the master piece. Mental note: a whole new entry maybe devoted for numbers.

The golden ratio, refer to the picture please for more details, is claimed to be utilized in music. A track called: “1.618” in an album called “The Binary Universe” featured a musical version of the ratio. Nevertheless, there is not accurate or universal agreement regarding how to calculate the ratio in music. You can add, subtract, and divide numbers until you reach the desired result. Still, the implied idea of symmetry, the using of octaves which their dividing process would end up with the ratio, and the fact that some musician had tried that earlier, all contribute to the using of golden ratio in music composing. I tend to believe the presence of such ratio doesn’t add more harmony, as it could be a spontaneous result of any measurement you may take.

Last time I asked you to close your eyes, was to remember the dark memories you had in your childhood. Now, seal them and tell me what you see when you listen to the music: colors, motion, order, or other worlds. We established that music has something to do with math, order, and harmony. That is the key of its effectiveness. In the end, I used soul, metaphorically, in last few paragraph to describe the reaction when you listen to music, otherwise, it’s well known the brain gets stimulated, Mozart Effect again, maybe other senses and the heart. Before I leave, I have one question: why don’t we broadcast female Quran readers? The sequel: this is why we have many decent Christian female singers, and only Muslims belly dancers.

P.S: I am not sure if there is any study was conducted by MRI scanning for brain while listening to Mozart’s music.

Missing Piece

Friday, February 25, 2011

There’s a piece of music which keeps playing inside my head. And I keep repeating it and humming it. I tried to play it on violin, but this was advance for me. I need to recall its name, so I could find the note and play it. And here lies the problem; I have a high traffic inside my brain, and I can’t spot, control, grab, or determine my destination. It’s the season where my brain controls me, not I do control it.

I can excuse this poor machine, as I put too much pressure and stress on it. It functions peacefully in every aspect I push my nose into. However, now I am having one of the greatest mind blocks. My brain, dear brain, is just like a donkey. This poor creature, donkey, is very smart, and good in memorizing. It’s a heavy duty worker, and never complains, just like my brain. Until on occasion, it decides to stop, whenever and wherever, and then no matter how hard the donkey hostler tries, the donkey won’t move a foot or a hoof.

The other issue with my brain is its disbelief. It was shocked, when it realized the body contour, it has been into. As my brain thinks of itself as an alpha brain, and it demands to be into an alpha male body. This has something to guarantee the survival of its legacy. However, I could tell where my arrogance came from. The conflict now between my body and my brain is very complicated, because my brain tried in the last or first 25 years of my life to kill me. When it had failed, it’s trying to convince me to get larger in size.

Apparently, we have a problem. I call my brain names, like donkey, and it’s trying to kill me. However, I have a cultural crisis. I’m not sure how to put this in non-arrogant or modest manner, but I think I’m superior. This is the dilemma I’ve been involved into since 2008. As a result I could conclude that I don’t belong to this community, as my brain doesn’t belong to my body. The fear I face the most is dying alone. Beside that I’m not sure who my lucky wife would be. The fine lady who I would spend the rest of my shortening life with her. And that was another missing piece.

A puzzle is forming inside my imagination. There is no fucking freaking clue of the complete image or the pieces. I’m confused, and even when I say I, I’m not sure who I is. We may have discussed the structure of the brain apparatus according to Freud. So, it’s time to know the human being component. Physically, there is a body, and the brain is a part of this body. Therefore, we can’t put the brain outside its frame which is the body. There is the life status, which could be what is called the soul. Some children are born without a head, the usual common head we all have. They may survive for seconds to minutes before they die.

So, there is the life and the body. Is there anything else? Indeed the sum of these two results the human being. And the human being is nothing more than the intention or the will. Life, body, and will. Nevertheless, I’m not sure if all of us did will to arrive to this earth. The will could be the margin between humans and animals. However, as we progress, we find out more in common between us, like my brain and I, and the will could be something in common. My brain, please function to figure out the missing piece in this formula.

The whole puzzle could be solved, if I remember the music recital name.

The Chain

Saturday, November 14, 2009
A sequence of events passed very quickly in my mind. I was in my friend car, listening to some music, I could at the point feel the unity of the guitar tone and me. The chain started from the guitar tone, to a conversation with a colleague, passing through a violin, and ending to me, having high standers, in life and friends. I want to take you with me in detail through this chain of my thoughts. However, recently, I’ve been through a lot of events, and I couldn’t catch a moment to write.

Violin, speaks the saddest sound a musical instrument can speak. I received one, 2 weeks ago, in a plan to learn how to play it. When I, first, held it in my hand, brought it closer to my neck, I realized that the arteries and veins that coming and going back to my heart lied beneath this instrument. That makes it very different to any musical instrument. I believe its sounds speak to and from my heart, my sorrow, and my ambition. In addition, it’s not very common to find people who can play such an elegant instrument.

A colleague asked me, while I was talking about my violin, why I didn’t buy a guitar. He didn’t ask why I bought a violin not a guitar. He didn’t ask me what’s so special about violin that I bought it and I didn’t buy a guitar. The nature of his question was very closed ended. I believe he assumed that nothing is better than guitar and asked based on his brilliant assumption. You can’t dare to discus him if guitar is not the best, as long as he believes so. This strict mentality fits the religious environment this boy was raised into. In the end, he only lives in absolute righteous and sure answers for every question, where no place for doubt. I’m not sure of what I’m saying next: (being liberal is accepting the chance of being wrong and admitting it, and many other advantages, like the freedom in sex practice, beliefs, and life options.) Anyway, I’m sure that my colleague community is eliminating different individuals. That’s why I’m fucking up eliminated in Riyadh. I can say I’m sure I’m different, and I’m very proud of being different. In the end of the conversation he asked me: (what’s violin?)

I was thinking between myself and myself ego, of Ahmed after 10 years for example. Myself ego was wondering between titles that I can be called. It was thinking like; Ahmed the doctor, the thinker, the writer, the poet, the revolutionist, or Ahmed the violinist. Well, I preferred to be called (The Violinist), it’s touching me deep within. The violinist is very extra ordinary.

Music, in any form, is amazing. Back to the beginning of this entry, and it all started there. I was listening in my friend’s car to a song; its name is La Llorona. La Llorona is an ancient Spanish legend, which in Spanish means “The crying/weeping woman”. The basic version is that La Llorona was a beautiful woman who killed her children to be with the man that she loved and was subsequently rejected by him. She drowned the children then killed herself, and is doomed to wander, searching for her children, always weeping. The story doesn’t end in here. I’ll be back soon to continue.
